Tails & Tales: 2021 Summer Reading Program Sponsorship
The WCLF funds the summer reading program at six Williamson County Public Library branches. The program consists of incentives to read over the summer, plus exposure to cultural experiences through various performances that tie reading and literacy into their programs. The program is offered at no cost to children and their caregivers.
This year’s fundraising goal is $20,000.
WHY SPONSOR
Students who don’t read over the summer lose crucial reading and cognitive skills gained over the school year – often referred to as “summer slide.” Some experts estimate there is a 5-15% loss in reading skills over the summer, which has a huge impact year over year. Summer slide is particularly relevant for low income students.
WHAT WILL THE PROGRAM LOOK LIKE THIS YEAR?
In 2019, programming included magicians, the Adventure Science Center, musicians, Science Guys,
theatre, wildlife specialists and ventriloquists. More than 2,500 children participated. This year’s programming will have both virtual portions and in-person performances. We estimate our audience will, once again, number in the thousands.
